What Kiiyo Filters

We filter it. So your body doesn't have to.

Kiiyo's advanced Nano-Zero filter is engineered to reduce 150+ contaminants from Australian tap water — including PFAS, chlorine, microplastics, pesticides and heavy metals.

150+ contaminants0.1 μm pore size

Added to municipal supplies to control bacteria, chlorine reacts with naturally occurring organic matter to form byproducts including trihalomethanes and haloacetic acids. Kiiyo's coconut shell activated carbon is highly effective at adsorbing free chlorine and reducing these residual compounds, restoring a clean, neutral taste.

Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances are a group of more than 4,000 synthetic compounds engineered for extreme chemical resistance — which also makes them persistent in both the environment and the human body. Widely detected in Australian tap water, PFAS are targeted by Kiiyo's specialised ion-exchange media, which intercepts these compounds at a molecular level where conventional carbon alone may fall short.

Microplastic particles — fragments smaller than 5 millimetres shed from plastics, tyres, synthetic textiles, and packaging — have been found in tap water globally, including in Australian supplies. Kiiyo's 0.1-micron hollow-fibre membrane provides a physical barrier that intercepts particles well below the threshold visible to the naked eye.

Herbicides, fungicides, and insecticides used across Australian agriculture can enter waterways through surface runoff and groundwater leaching. While present at trace concentrations in treated tap water, their cumulative presence is a growing area of study. Kiiyo's multi-stage carbon block filtration is designed to reduce a broad range of organochlorine and organophosphate compounds.

Heavy metals enter drinking water through a combination of industrial discharge, natural mineral leaching, and — most commonly — ageing household plumbing. Lead is of particular concern in older homes. Kiiyo's KDF-55 media uses a redox process to convert soluble heavy metal ions into insoluble particles, which are then captured by subsequent filter layers.

Fine particles of silt, sand, rust, and pipe scale are common in tap water — particularly in areas with ageing infrastructure or following heavy rainfall. Though not typically a health hazard at low levels, sediment affects taste, clarity, and can accelerate appliance wear. Kiiyo's mechanical pre-filtration layer captures particulate matter before it reaches the carbon stages.

Trace pharmaceuticals — including hormones, antibiotics, and analgesics — enter water systems via human and veterinary excretion, and are increasingly detected in treated tap water worldwide. While Australian standards in this area continue to evolve, Kiiyo's multi-media filtration approach is designed to address this emerging category of concern alongside a broad range of organic pollutants.

FAQ's

How long does the filter last?

The Kiiyo filter lasts up to 200L or 2 months — whichever comes first. For most people that's roughly 1 litre per day. Replacement filters are available at kiiyo.com.au.

What contaminants does the filter remove?

The Kiiyo NSF/ANSI certified carbon block filter reduces 150+ contaminants including chlorine, PFAS (forever chemicals), heavy metals (lead, arsenic, mercury), microplastics, rust, and sediment.

Can I use it with hot water?

No — the filter is designed for cold or room temperature water only. Using hot water can damage the filter membrane and reduce its effectiveness.

How do I know when to replace the filter?

We recommend replacing your filter every 200L or every 2 months. If you notice a change in taste or flow rate before then, it's time to replace it sooner.

Is it suitable for water sources other than tap water?

The Kiiyo bottle is designed specifically for municipal tap water. It is not suitable for seawater, heavily contaminated water sources, or untreated water from rivers and streams.
